This trip might not be suitable as a first trip to Sea. It is a long way across the English Channel if you find
you do not like it. It can take between 8 and 12 hours. There may well be some night hours sailed. With only a
three-day weekend, you do not necessarily have the luxury of "getting your Sea legs" before you are out in the
Channel!
Starting from Southampton: the possible itinerary, (all subject to the Weather)
Friday: 8 pm (2000BST) Join the yacht. An evening meal on board, Safety briefing, depart as soon as we are ready. There is always the possibility that the yacht will be ready for us in the early afternoon of Friday. This is something you cannot be certain about until about one week before we go. It depends if the yacht is hired the previous mid-week. Anyway there is always a strong possibility that a person booked with us to go, has to work all day Friday and will not get to Southampton until late.
Sunday: All being well we could visit Alderney from Cherbourg. At some point we have to start back!
Monday: Return Yacht to base by 1630. End of trip.
With a fair weather window, Southampton to Cherbourg or Saint Peter Port (Guernsey). Perhaps the crew will want
to, Work "watches" and experience the feel of a long passage, or perhaps the trip will be more
"laid back" and have more time ashore in France. Experience crossing the shipping lanes. Providing
you have at least an RYA Day Skipper practical course certificate, skipper a leg over 60nM, or perhaps experience a
watch as Navigator or First Mate.
Included in the price: The Charter of the Yacht; Yachtmaster Instructor; your meals on board: all breakfasts and lunches, at least two evening meals on board,
Tea/Coffee and soft drinks; Gas for cooking; parking your car at the hire base.
